Caleb Mead Preston was a native of Virginia and was born
at Lynchburg, November 21st, 1817. He was the son of Peter and Abi (Hole) Preston.
Peter Preston was the son of John and Rebecca Preston, and was born in Virginia,
March 2nd, 1786. Abi Hole was the daughter of jacob and Mary Hole, and was born May
16th, 1788. Mary Hole was the daughter of Captain John thoams who was born in 1698,
and left a brilliant record in the "Revolutionary War". Peter Preston and
Abi Hole were married in 1808, to them were born sixteen children, all but one living to
maturity.
The Prestons were of English ancestory, while Abi Hole
was of Norse-English origin. She was a woman of very rare ability. Her
children were strongly marked by her brilliant personality.
