Hello,

Good website -- keep up the good work, and thank you!

Although my parents said several times that we were largely descended from Scots, the only direct connexion I've been able to establish is through my paternal grandmother.  Her maiden name was Miller (from Kansas USA at the time of her birth in the latter part of the 19th Century).  Supposedly, some of the Joneses (i.e., my paternal grandfather's lineage) descended from Scots, although the direct patrilinial sequence seems to have been Welsh.

Naturally, I'd be delighted to learn more.

Best regard to all,

Bob Jones, Waiotehue, New Zealand

Their parents were Robert Peter McFarlane and Margaret Rose (nee Ross) born 1879.

Any other information would be appreciated.

Don't know if you're aware, Clan McFarlane are the descendents of Malcolm Parlane (pronounced Farlane).  They started calling themselves Clan M'Parlane (pronounced Mah Farlane) and eventually became known as McParlane, McPharlane, and McFarlane, even MacFarlane and McFarland.  The immediate founder of the Clan was Gilchrest, second son of Aluin, Earl of Lenox (12th Century Scottland).  His great grandson was Parlane and his son was Malcolm M'Parlane.  I can trace my own family to Hugh McFarlane, one of the founders of Portage, Wisconsin, who came to America from Plumbridge, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland July 1835.

Hi!  My name is Pat Hickey-Dukes.  I live in Morristown, Tennessee.  Would love to share my ancestry with you.  I have been able to trace the McFarland (McFarlane) line back to Scotland John who was born in 1708 in Arroquah, Scotland in 1708.  I am aware of descendants of John and his wife Mary Montgomery (1719-1782) who are now in Texas, Missouri, and in East Tennessee.  The McFarlanes immigrated in 1746 to Virginia.  Would be interested in those in other places.  Would also like to be advised of family pictures, coat of arms, etc. that I can print from web sites.  Thanks!  Pat Hickey-Dukes.

Hi!  Great site you have here.  I have always wanted to delve into my family history, but it seems overwhelming.  my paternal grandparents were Thomas McFarlane and Anna McManus.  I'm told that they met and married in Edinburgh, Scotland, and came to the U.S. at some point.  Anna's brothers Rodney and Frank (Francis?) emigrated with them.  I'm told that one or more of their children may have been born in Scotland but most were born here:  Donald, Helen, Elizabeth (Betty), Katherine (Kitty), and Richard (my father).  My grandparents lived in Oakland CA.

My father, Richard Bruce McFarlane, married my mother, Marjorie Janke, and they had three daughters, myself, my sister Rebecca, and my sister Cynthia.  My parents were divorced in about 1955, and my father went on to marry two more times and had, all told, something like 13-17 children.  The only other one of my father's siblings to marry was Helen, who had three children:  Judith, Thomas and Robert.  If anyone has additional information, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!  Robin Welch nee McFarlane

Hi all McFarlane's!!!!!  Unfortunately I do not know anything about my ancestry ... my father was William Desmond McFarlane, his father was William and mother was Isobelle.  They lived in Perth, Western Australia.  My father had two sisters ... Margaret and Esme.  Unfortunately, my dad did not have any brothers and he bore 3 daughters only, with my being the eldest ... thus our McFarlane name has reached the end of the line.  If anyone can help me find out a bit more about my ancestry, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks, Karen Moir (McFarlane)

I just happened on this site.  I am originally from Morristown, TN.  My parents have (had) a book on the McFarlane clan.  They moved this summer and the book has not been found but I am still looking.  The book details all of the history of our line back to the 1700's in Scotland.

My grandparents on my father's side were Zouella Bowers and James Hickey.  When I find the book, I will be happy to copy and share with folks.

Thanks, Gayle

Hello,

We have just discovered your site, and very impressive it is.

My fiance' and I went to Edinburgh last year to search for 'his tartan' as he recently discovered his grandfather had Scottish roots and he desperately wanted to find out more about his history.  His grandfathers name was John Jacob Miller and we were told whilst we were in Edinburgh that Miller is part of the Macfarlane Clan.  Is this correct as we are getting married in May 2005 and are traveling up to Edinburgh in November for my fiance' to get measured up for a kilt made out of the Macfarlane tartan?
Keep up the good work with the site,
Yours in anticipation

I posted a message back in December of 2001 -- that I was looking for information on a Joseph Kilburg who married Emma Schmitt.  I have found him, and have tracked his Kilburg family in Wintrich back to Petrus who was born in Kesten, and then to Petrus' birth in 1706.  During the searching (outside of Mormon tapes which provided all the documentation) I found out that a group of Joseph's cousins (Susanna Kilburg Steffen, Margaret Kilburg Wultz, Nicholas, Michael Mathias and John) came to the US a few years after Joseph, and most went to Iowa.  They are children of Michael Kilburg, younger brother of Johann Anton Kilburg (normally called just Anton).  When I copied my family's records from microfilm, I copied their's also, but have been unable to contact any of their descendents.  My name is Joan Norek, and I am a patent attorney in Chaicago, which can be checked on the Internet.  I want to mail these documents -- Just tell me where you are.  I see Maureen in CA, but no contact info.  Please contact me.

Your website is really well done!  It was wonderful to see so many familiar ancesters and some earlier oens I didn't know about, as well.  (My greatgrandfather was Peter Kell McFarlane.  My grandmother was Dr. Clara MacFarlane Miller.)  I'd be interested in hearing about any McFarlane family reunions or other activities, particularly those in the Northwest, since I live in Seattle, WA.

Hi, very interesting site.  My name is Avis Wiskow married to Melroy.  Our connection to McFarlanes is through Alexander b. about 1812 in Kilbinnie parish, Aysphere County, Scotland (at least that is what we have been told, don't know if spelling is correct).  He would be Melroy's g-g-grandfather on his mother's side.  Alex married Belinda Jane Corley b. about 1820 in Ireland.  Alex's family settled in Lanark County, near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  His son Neil married Agnes Manning, lived in Ontario for a few years, moved to North Dakota, USA then moved to Roseau County Minnesota.  Large number of descendents in the area to this day.  I would be interested in hearing from anyone concerning McFarlane heritage.

Your site is terrific.  I love the music.  Last year my wife and I saw the Black Watch here in suburban Chicago, and bought their CD.

To the point, what exactly is/was your interest in the NIERSBACH family name and, who are the three living Niersbacks to which you refer.  Would appreciate your clarification; then I'll leave you alone.

I can tell that a lot of work has gone into your site.  However, to be honest, there really doesn't seem to be much information on the Matin line.  Please don't take this as a negative comment, b/c if any one knows how impossible "they" seem to be to find, it is me!!!  I have been searching for two years for "My Martin's"!- So,. it truly is not meant as a "negative comment, only one of disappointment."   All I know of my line is that my g.g. grandfather was Edward Martin, he was married to a Barbara Slitter- I believe that they both were born in Switzerland.  My g.grandfather was Edward Norman Martin b.1883 in Allegheny co., Pa.-  He was married to Antoinette Shedwick, born in 1883 in Stolberg, Germany.  I will come back to visit this site from time to time in the hope that someone may know these names, and will be able to give me some help in this search.  Good luck in all of your continued searching!  Melinda Martin Fletcher - If anyone knows anything abt. my Martin line, please email me:  msf@nb.net .  THANK YOU!!
